Bored in quarantine

Quarantine is very boring as you know, and we have to find new creative ways to entertain ourselves for the rest of it. So what I did is that I put my phone away and tried to find some ways to entertain myself. I helped at home, I moved my winter clothes away and sorted the summer clothes in my closet, did some training for around an hour, cleaned my room and organized it, finished my most important homework, we also went for a walk outside.

So as you see there are a lot of things you can do when you are bored, you don't even have to stay on your phone all of the time, even if it's hard for you you can still try to. For me this was a really good experience, it helped me mentally and physically, I really recommend for you to try it too because there is nothing to lose.

COVID-19 quarantine

We are currently locked down in quarantine because of the COVID-19 breakout, and we have to find new ways to entertain ourselves during these hard times. Quarantine has taught me two things, the first one is that we need to stay in  good shape. Even if you can't go out of your house you can still train at home. If you don't train and the quarantine continues for longer all of your muscles will get weaker and weaker by the time quarantine ends, so you have to train at home if you want to stay healthy and in good shape.

The second thing is more of a political one, when the COVID-19 outbreak happened China didn't warn the world about it, and this mistake led to a worldwide pandemic that killed people. Yes it's not that deadly, but people are still dying from it. So never go out if your country is in a bad condition, only if it is necessary for you and be careful because you might get infected and then infect others.

Coronavirus is our future

This Ted talk that was directed by Alanna Shaikh gives a lot of information about COVID-19 and how to prevent it. COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus because it is a new virus. This virus has spikes which are called corona, theses spikes help the process of infiltration. The fast spread of the virus is a big challenge for the health systems. For this reason it is important that countries share information and knowledge as soon as possible, and also get ready for emergencies in advance. Sheikha also made an important analysis about the fact that emergencies compound inequities and discriminations. She stated that quarantine doesn't help much, because symptoms may show after many days firm the infection, and so infected people may go around before being in quarantine and infect other people. Furthermore humans find it hard to stay isolated. Humans are social creatures and need to communicate with others, which is why, Shaikh said, quarantine isn't effective. Another thing logical to keep in mind is to wash your hands a lot. We touch a lot of things throughout the day and catch germs and we might catch the COVID-19 as well, so it is very important to wash your hands. Another thing to keep in mind is to not touch your face at all, even after washing your hands try to touch your face as less as possible, because the virus gets in your body through the respiratory system. Now for the face masks they are useless if you are not a doctor or not infected, that's because the virus can still enter through the holes that are between your face and the mask, so it is better to not buy the masks. Doctors need the masks because the know how to use them and can prevent being infected, and for the infected people masks stop the virus from spreading through the air, so leave the masks for others who actually need them.

Alanna Shaikh used ethos when she first started to show that she actually knows about what she is talking about. She also used pathos and logos along the speech, pathos to get the attention of the audience, and logos to show proof of the argument.

Contagion reflection

Contagion is a movie about a deadly disease that spread through Los Angeles and Australia, infecting and killing thousands in weeks. This movie is very similar to what the world looks like now, although it was made in 2011. The virus started with one man who infected his friend and then infected others on a flight, for then resulting in thousands of deaths. In the movie the disease wouldn't have spread in Los Angeles if that one man who decided to sneak out of the plane to finish his job didn't sneak out. The decision that man made was a really nonsense one because he should have been aware of the consequences, just like all the people that showed symptoms and decided to travel anyway. Later on in the movie the number of infections increase leading to a criminal case in which a medicine that could help was stolen. At the end a doctor found a cure for the virus and in a couple of weeks the pandemic would be over.

The movie relates to our world right now because of the first and most obvious reason which is that there is a pandemic. The second reason is that people are unaware of the consequences their actions might have like meeting too many people when they don't feel well, which is also what led to the pandemic. The third and last reason that makes the movie relatable to our world is that crime rates increase, criminals just want to put their hands on the medicines that would help everyone so they can cure or at least slow down the disease.

There are also some differences between the world and the movie, like the mortality rate of the two viruses, the one in the movie has a really high mortality rate which is for all ages, unlike the COVID-19 that has a really lower mortality rate which is mostly for elders, babies, and people with health issues. Another difference is the way the virus spreads, the movie focuses the virus in Los Angeles and Australia while the COVID-19 is all around the world.

The movie shows how every action has a consequence, like mentioned before the man who sneaked out the plane got and entire city infected. One little action can result in a terrible consequence, so when doing something you should always think of what can happen next.

What Makes a Good life?

In this Ted talk Robert Waldinger talked about the study in Harvard, which is to study men from their young age till they grew older. They started up with 2 groups of men, the wealthy ones finished college to then serve at war. The other group was the poor group, they became adults which entered all walks of life being successful. Some climbed all the way from the bottom to the top, and some from the top to the bottom. And they discovered that good relationships keep us healthy and make us happier, and that loneliness kills. In fact people that are lonely are reported to be less happy, their health declines earlier in mid life, and their brain functionality declines sooner, and they live shorter lives. And it's not about you having a relationship but the quality of it. Just like the men they studied, the quality of their relationship is what would keep them happy and healthy in life. And another thing they learned is that good relationships keep our brains protected.

This TED talk can somehow relate to the "beguiling truth of beauty"article, because even though the talk is about relationships and the article is about beauty, they are mainly about having a good life. In the talk what makes a good life are good relations and in the article what makes a good life is to stop judging ourselves critically and start appreciating ourselves. And this also applies to the poem "barbie doll". The poem is about the judgements of society on someone's aspects, which leads them to a horrible life with poor brain sanity, but Robert Waldinger explained that lonely people don't have a healthy brain. Even if in the poem what led to an unhealthy brain was the impact of society on a person, it still relates to that by the way of life you get by having an unhealthy brain. Now this whole study succeeded because first they insisted on trying, and secondly they had luck. A lot of other research like these were started but didn't succeed because people died very early or they didn't have a future, or for other reasons. But luckily this one did succeed and probably helped out a lot of people in making their lives better. And just as Mr. Robert ended with a quote for Mark Twain that says: “There isn't time, so brief is life, for bickerings, apologies, heartburnings, callings to account. There is only time for loving, and but an instant, so to speak, for that.”

Choose beautiful campaign

Dove, which is a famous beauty company, decided to start a campain which is basically putting two entrances, the first one with average written above it, and the second with beautiful written above it, pretty simple but with a lot of meanin. So women started entering, some chose average and some chose beautiful. What was wanted from this campaign was for the women that entered the doors to reflect on who they think they are, and if they think they are affected by how thesociety sees them.
On the interview the ones who chose the average door described how they regretted to enter that door and how they think what people think about. on the other side there are the ones who entere the beautiful door, and here is where everything chamged completely, they where proud of them selves to choose the beautiful door because they don't care if the people see them as ugly women, but cared about how they see themselves and what person they think they are.
This campaign isn't only to make the women that entered the doors reflect on them selves, but also for the men and women who see this campaign to make them reflect and change their thoughts about how they and the society see them, wether they fell they are beautyful or on the average level.
This campaign represents the people who are confident about themselves and aren't afraid to show the world who they think the really are. and the people who think they are weak and are afraid of the society and their thoughts on how they see them.
